Who needs a Wii, DSi, PS3 or XBox for entertainment when you have a few sticks and bracken? Well the juniors certainly proved that they can gain lots of pleasure, ample survival skills and plenty of team lessons with these items!
We visited Longnor Forest in 2 groups over 2 days enjoying; a blind-fold chain walk, an individual blind-fold rope walk, mini orienteering, den building, outdoor tea making and forest stories. Guided by the Rangers Lynn and Reuben the children built dens from felled trees and freshly picked bracken. Have a look at the pictures above and be amazed at their achievements.

As you know the children have been learning to play the violin since September 2009. They have made super progress and now know how to hold their violin properly, a bow hold and locate and play the named strings.
Neil and Paul, who tutor the children in violins every Friday, arranged a concert for our school and several others to play alongside an award winning orchestra.
It was such a priviledge for the children of Earl Sterndale school and I’m sure will be one of those long lasting childhood memories.

Have a look at the super costumes the children came in to celebrate World Book Day. The children also took part in fun book related activites.

This term we are learning about materials. Here are some photographs of a KS2 session where we were investigating which type of paper towel was most absorbent.

The budding Spielbergs at Earl Sterndale School have produced another magnificent film to rival the best that hollywood can produce. Based on the Roald Dahl book Fantastic Mr Fox, the pupils in class two wrote the scripts, made the scenery and narrated the story. Fantastic!
You can see it at the end of term assembly this Friday.

All this year the Junior children are very priviliged to be receiving violin weekly lessons. We are in our 5th week now and we all know how to hold the violin correctly, pluck the strings, the names of the strings and have just begun holding and using the bow. It’s a lot trickier than it looks and the children are all doing very well. If we practise very hard we are hoping to be good enough to do a little performance at the end of term for parents to see and hear!

We all enjoyed a poetry filled day led by Andy Tooze, a local poet, on November 6th. Andy had so much energy and fun written into all of his poems that the children were truly inspired when writing their own. At the end of the day Andy chose two children whom had worked exceptionally well and presented them with a copy each of one of his poetry books.
