Newsletter – 20th February 2015

It’s been a very busy week. Here’s news of our trip to Derby, our latest sporting endeavours, a visit from the vet and the Chinese New Year party…

Mrs Plevey’s (well, actually today it’s Miss Clayton’s) Sports Bit

Today the juniors went to Buxton Community School with Miss Clayton to take part in Sportshall Athletics. The children took part in track and field events including: javelin, jumping and running relays (some with hurdles and obstacles).  Although we didn’t win (we were up against four other large schools), all gave their absolute best and cheered each other on –Mrs Plevey would be proud!  We have now been put forward to a small schools tournament so watch this space…

Trip to Derby

The trip to the Hindu temple and Derby Cathedral was ACE! The children were beautifully behaved and had a great time. I think they were surprised themselves at how much they got from the visit.

Messy Church – Tues 24th Feb

There will be a Messy Church on Tues 24th Feb from 3:30 to 5 o’clock. All are welcome and it’s free, though donations are gratefully received.

Annie

Annie is still not well enough to return to work. We have decided to buy her a gift voucher with the money collected so she can buy herself a gift when she’s feeling better. Many thanks to those who have made kind and generous donations.

Vet Visit

Many thanks to our new friend Lesley who came in to talk to the infants about her job as a veterinary nurse. This prompted some excellent role play in Class 1:

World Book Day

World Book Day is Thursday 5th March. We will be having a special Reading Morning that day and would like to invite parents, friends and family in to school to share the event with us. More details will follow.

Re-arranged Booster Clubs

Because we have missed several Booster Clubs (and it looks like we may miss at least one other before Easter) I am proposing to hold extra Booster Clubs on the following dates to catch up: Fri 6th Mar; Fri 13th Mar and Fri 20th Mar. I may ask for a few more after Easter too!!

Obviously there will be no Booster Clubs next week as we are at Whitehall and I will have to cancel on Wednesday 4th March as well. Apologies for any inconvenience. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me.

Chinese New Year CAGES Event

To mark the upcoming Chinese New Year, CAGES are planning a Chinese feast tomorrow, Saturday 21st Feb starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale – please see Mrs Sparkes. All proceeds will go towards CAGES funds.

Parent View – Ofsted Website

When Ofsted come (which they inevitably will) one of the ways they measure success at the school is to ask parents for their views. They may choose to speak to you directly while they are here or take a look at our questionnaire responses, but they will certainly read comments left on their Parent View website. It is really easy to access the website (just search Parent View) and follow the instructions. We hope you are happy with the education your children get at our school and that you will be able to make a few positive comments on Parent View. If you are struggling to get access, please pop in and we will help.

Whitehall Week

Next week is Whitehall week so some of the juniors will be out of school and so will I. Many thanks to the remaining staff for helping out.
