Newsletter 8th May 2015

SATs next week and half-term is just a couple of weeks away…

SATs

Next week is SATs week for the Y6 children. Please try to make sure the children are well rested and well fed. We are aiming to do all the tests in the morning, leaving the afternoons free to relax a little. We will have our final two Boosters next Tuesday and Wednesday. Well done to all the Booster Club children – they have worked really hard and attendance has been excellent.

Assessment Evening

Some of you may be aware of changes to the way we assess children’s attainment and progress throughout their primary education. This year is the last time children will be assessed on the levels system we have been using for over 10 years. We are working hard to ensure that the new systems are ready and working for next year. On Thursday 21st May, from 3:30 onwards, we will be holding an ‘Assessment Evening’ to take you through these changes and how they will affect your children. We will do our best to pass on the information we have and keep you up to date with the current thinking.

If you think you may struggle to attend, but would like to know more, please let me know and I will chat through it with you.

Mrs Plevey’s Sports Bit

The juniors have two more climbing sessions at the wall before half term on Thursday afternoons with a bus transporting them both ways.

We also have a Kwik cricket tournament on Tues 19th May for Years 5 & 6, more info to follow.

Sex and Relationships Education

We have invited our school nurse in to school to cover the SRE element of your child’s junior education on the morning of Fri 22nd May. This is for Y5 and Y6 children only. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to see me.

Parents’ Evenings – Change of Date to 13th July

Parents’ Evenings has changed to Monday 13th July. More details will follow closer to the time.

Coffee Morning at the Chapel

On Wednesday the juniors went down to the Chapel to share with the village coffee morning. Three of the children read their stories based on The Hobbit and were warmly welcomed by the folk of the village.

Toddler Mornings

We will be having a Toddler Morning on Weds June 24th. All pre-school children (and their parents!) are welcome to come along and spend the morning doing activities and getting to know the school.

Text Messaging

We are considering starting a text messaging service for parents which, in theory, will help to keep you informed about events and activities in and around school. We would like to know your opinion – let us know if you think it is a good idea.

New Intake Days

There will be two days for next year’s Reception children to come into school for half a day as follows: Tues 30th June in the morning and Tues 14th July in the afternoon. This will also be an opportunity for the Y2 children to spend some time in Class 2 in preparation for next year. More details will follow. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Car Parking

It has been brought to our attention that there have been problems with car parking outside school at the start of school at 9 o’clock and again at home time at 3:30. If there are cars parked on both sides of the road, it makes it very difficult for cars to get through and it also makes it very difficult for drivers to see the children. I have been asked to pass on a request to try to keep the road clear as much as possible at these times.

Bags 2 School

Our next Bags 2 School collection has been arranged – it will be on Fri 12th June. We will send bags home as soon as we have them.
