Pond Dipping
Here is the whole school pond dipping with Ann McNeil. We found lots of interesting creatures and even some early tadpoles.

As part of the juniors geography work the KS2 children went on a field trip to look at river features. With a bit of expert help from Ann McNeil we tracked the source and beginning of the River Dove all the way to Dovedale where it stretches over 10metres wide. The children identified: the watershed, tributaries, meanders, a confluence and waterfalls. The children particularly enjoyed measuring the depth of the river at and finding out how fast it flowed at different points. Lots of learning on a beautiful day! Also we spotted a Chinook!
As a special treat Earl Sterndale School were invited to The University of Derby (Buxton Campus) to take part in the events organised by the students. Raffles, tombolas, ‘Find the Treasure’ and ‘Guess the Name of the Rabbit’ were activities all enjoyed by the children. However they mostly enjoyed throwing pies and the Red Nose Hunt! Thank you to the students for organising this fund-raising event and the parents for being so generous with their donations. Here is a photo of the children with their Mad Hair and one of the pie throwing.
This year the children celebrated World Book Day by performing a puppet show. They worked in mixed aged groups, wrote the script, made the puppets and also the scenery. There were even some sound effects. The children worked very well together and we enjoyed watching their performances. Well done!

Our community officers came to visit us yesterday. They reminded us to think about crossing the road safely, who we should trust and being good citizens. After their talk we had a look in the police van and really enjoyed being locked in the back….but only for a few seconds!!
All the children and staff worked very hard to produce this year’s nativity. A script written by Mr Holden looked at the story from the point of view of two peasants. The play gave every child a part to act or sing. Mr Bower supplied a wonderful musical score to accompany the show. Here are a few photos:

KS2 went to Over Haddon to explore part of the National Park. They found many examples of trees, leaf shapes and mini-beasts including a yellow ladybird. Later we travelled to Moneyash carrying our ideas from the morning to develop in the form of pottery tiles.
It was a great honour for the choir to be asked to sing at a wedding in Earl Sterndale’s church. This was a very special day as the bride, Tammy, used to be a pupil at Earl Sterdale School and the Mother of the Bride, Mrs Julie Jenkins works as a Teaching Assistant here.
The whole school wish Tammy and Curly a wonderful and happy future.
